Abiding Peace Lutheran Church has served Upstate South Carolina since our founding in 1980. After years of God's grace, we began worship in a second location in the greater Greenville area and "Abiding Peace Easley" was born. Learn more about us below!

A Sunday at Abiding Peace in Easley

We've been honored to serve upstate since 1980.

OUR FOUNDING — 1980

Our story traces back to humble and courageous beginnings when several families left an area church for reasons of doctrine (“teachings”) and began to meet in member homes, served by a pastor who traveled many miles to be with them. The Lord blessed this small group to a point where they were able to purchase land and build a multi-use facility on Woodruff Rd and have a full-time pastor. Eventually a bigger and better location was developed on the corner of Batesville Road and Roper Mt. in a fast-growing part of the Five Forks area.

OUR BUILDING in FIVE FORKS — 2000

THE SCHOOL IN FIVE FORKS — 2014

NEW SITE IN EASLEY — 2024

In 2000 the members of Abiding Peace dedicated a beautiful church building to the glory of God and for use in his kingdom. Not long after that, a preschool was developed and utilized a portion of the church building to serve members and the community. Blessed by God’s grace, the new location and outreach into the community resulted in growth to the point where the Fellowship Hall was expanded in 2007 to create more space for Bible study, social events, and preschool usage. Two additional classrooms were included in this expansion which led to the establishment of Abiding Peace Academy (APA) elementary school for grades K-5 in 2009.

Abiding Peace Academy began in our church building and started with a preschool (K3 and K4) but quickly expanded to offer more options for families. God blessed APA with growth and in 2014 the members of Abiding Peace built a stand-alone school building, and ten years later that building was expanded to accommodate serving students in grades K-8. Our school ministry has enabled us to serve the needs of our church families and people from our community and has helped to make Abiding Peace a known and respected entity in the Five Forks area. To God be the glory!

During the years of expansion and growth, Abiding Peace was also actively looking and researching other parts of the growing Greenville area to see where a second congregation might be developed. After researching the area and working with experts in establishing mission churches, a temporary location was rented in the downtown Easley area, and “Abiding Peace Easley” was born. We are using this location for worship and Bible study and as a launching pad to reach out and continue exploring the area west of Greenville to identify the best spot to establish a permanent church.

What we believe
at Abiding Peace

We believe that justification comes through faith alone. We understand that this faith isn't something we achieve through our own efforts or decisions—it's a precious gift from God that enables us to trust in Christ's perfect sacrifice. Through faith, we receive Christ's righteousness and stand justified before God. This faith isn't dormant but living and active in our daily lives, producing good works not as a path to salvation, but as a grateful response to God's amazing grace.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Sola Fide, by Faith Alone

What does this mean?

Faith Alone

We believe that salvation is entirely God's gift to us—undeserved and unearned. We recognize that God's grace is His unmerited favor toward sinners, demonstrated most perfectly when He sent His Son to die for us while we were still sinners. We cannot contribute to our salvation through good works, religious ceremonies, or moral living. From beginning to end, our salvation is the work of God's grace alone.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Christ Alone

Scripture Alone

We believe that Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and humanity. We confess that salvation is found in no one else—Christ alone lived the perfect life we could never live and died the death we deserved. His substitutionary sacrifice on the cross fully satisfied God's justice. Through Christ alone, we have access to the Father. His resurrection confirms his victory over sin, death, and the devil, guaranteeing our salvation and eternal life.

"For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people." (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

Scripture Alone

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the only infallible rule and authority for Christian faith and life. We hold that the Holy Scriptures are clear, sufficient, and authoritative, revealing everything we need to know for salvation. We submit to Scripture's authority over all else. Through the Bible, God speaks directly to our hearts today, guiding us in truth and teaching us his will for our lives.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Scripture Alone

We believe that our lives are a gift from God and so is our new life as a Christian. We are saved by God’s grace, because of the work of Christ, and is ours through faith, as proclaimed in Scripture. Therefore, all credit and honor and praise goes to God alone, and we seek to live each day in a way that glorifies him.

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever.” (Romans 11:36)
